Barcelona are reportedly close to a deal with Chelsea to sign Marcos Alonso, but their hunt for Cesar Azpilicueta has become complicated.
Alonso’s future at Stamford Bridge has been a topic of conversation this summer due to his eagerness to return to Spain.
Chelsea’s defense has been significantly weakened following the departure of central defender pair Antonio Rudiger and Anders Christiansen.

The defensive exodus could continue next week, with Barcelona hoping to sign Alonso for £8.6 million (10 million euros) according to Sport†
The 31-year-old confirmed last month that he wants to leave Chelsea, saying: “On paper I have a contract for another year and that is where we are now. I have already said that I would like to play in Spain again, but it is not entirely up to me.
“I can’t complain about anything at Chelsea, but the will to play in Spain is there. It doesn’t depend entirely on me and to be honest I’m happy at Chelsea.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s hunt for fellow full-back Azpilicueta is said to be complicated, despite him approving a move to the club.
Alonso has been linked to Barcelona as part of Xavi’s summer remodel at Nou Camp
The Sport report claims Chelsea has agreed to let the 32-year-old leave and has promised to negotiate a deal with Barcelona, but the change of ownership of the Blues has delayed the process.
The two clubs will meet next week to discuss a deal. Like Alonso, Barcelona value Azpilicueta at £8.6million, but Chelsea would like to get more – something Xavi’s side is not willing to do at the moment.
Barca are looking to fill the void at right-back with club legend Dani Alves, who has confirmed he is leaving for a second time.
