Barbie Becomes Highest-Grossing Film of 2023 as Margot Robbie’s Hit Takes in $1.3 Billion at Box Office
Barbie’ became the highest-grossing film of 2023, a month after its theatrical release.
The blockbuster – which stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling – has overtaken The Super Mario Bros. Movie at the global box office, with Variety revealing on Saturday that the film has now grossed a total of $1.36 billion since its release in July.
It was revealed earlier this week that the hit film also became the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros. history.
The film, starring Margo Robbie in the lead role and Ryan Gosling as her “boyfriend” Ken, broke the record set by 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which grossed 1. $31 billion.
Barbie is also sure to get another boost in ticket sales when it hits the IMAX on September 22.

These new sequences will be selected by director Greta Gerwig.
“As a special thank you to Barbie fans, we’re thrilled to share some more of the amazing work of our cast and crew by adding some new special footage that we hope audiences will enjoy,” the nominated actor said. at the Oscars in a statement to Variety.
The news was good news for parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, whose shares ended up nearly four percent.
Greta Gerwig’s film was released on the same day as war drama Oppenheimer, with the Christopher Nolan-directed epic becoming the second highest-grossing R-rated film in history this week.
Oppenheimer has now collected $787 million at the box office, meaning it has surpassed the record set by Ryan Reynolds’ 2018 hit Deadpool 2, which grossed $785 million and was also deemed unsuitable for those under 17 years old.
This means the drama – which stars Cillian Murphy – is just behind Joker on the list of highest-grossing R-rated films of all time, which became the first film of its kind to break the billion-dollar mark after its released in 2019.
