Victorian MP David Limbrick says a number of banks have contacted sex workers in recent weeks to tell them that their accounts have been canceled and to take their business elsewhere.

The liberal democrat said that sex workers were also discriminated against.

& # 39; I condemn this policy which basically amounts to sl-t-shaming by companies & # 39 ;, Mr. Limbrick told the House of Lords on Tuesday.

& # 39; The absolutely worst hypocrites are NAB, who at the same time claim all kinds of virtues in their human rights, diversity and inclusion policies, while treating sex workers as smaller people.

& # 39; I will continue to shame NAB publicly until they change. & # 39;

NAB stopped maintaining brothels and escort agencies earlier this year to comply with anti-money laundering legislation, bringing it into line with all other major banks, a NAB spokeswoman told AAP.

& # 39; However, we do offer banking services to sex workers who operate independently and legally and have no plans to change this policy, & # 39; she said.

& # 39; We encourage customers working in the sex industry to contact us for more information. & # 39;

Rachel Payne of the Eros Association for adults, said most of the complaints they receive relate to banks.

& # 39; NAB has been particularly bad when it comes to not only refusing services to sex workers, but also to adult retailers, & # 39; she told AAP.

& # 39; How can the banks have moral dignity on what an essential service is? & # 39; Mrs. Payne said.

& # 39; We must not forget that these are legal, tax-paying companies. Without proper access to banking services, it's almost impossible to work & # 39 ;.
