Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority Launches One Stop Service Center in Dhaka

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) recently launched its ‘One Stop Service Center’ for providing all the important services to  investors from a single window. The OSS center was inaugurated by Salman F Rahman, Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka.

The event was graced with the presence of various prominent personalities. Besides Salman F Rahman, BEZA’s executive chairman Paban Chowdhury; Prime Minister’s principal secretary Md Nojibur Rahman; secretary to PM’s Office Sajjadul Hassan; Japanese ambassador in Dhaka Naoki Ito, were also present.

While addressing the gathering, Salman, who is also one of the most prominent businessmen of the country, said that Bangladesh is witnessing significant development under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He further emphasized upon the importance of service delivery and how it should be used to earn people’s trust.

According to the World Bank Group’s Doing Business ranking 2019, though Bangladesh observed a reasonable change in its overall ranking, the country was still placed at 176th position out of the 190 economies.

In its attempt to improve the ranking and enhance the overall productivity, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led-government has been working aggressively towards socio-economic development. The tone for it was set up by Salman F Rahman, who is also one of the most successful businessmen in Bangladesh, when he declared his constituency Dohar-Nawabganj as SEZ — for stimulating economic growth, creating employment opportunities and eradicating poverty.

One Stop Service (OSS) Center could be yet another great step that brings a positive change in the next “Ease of Doing Business” index.

According to Paban Chowdhury, under the OSS center, the investors in the economic zones would get all sorts of services at a single window to start their business within a short time. It’s a single window service meant to provide investors hassle-free services under one roof. The domestic and international investors are very likely to be benefitted with the inauguration of OSS center. From obtaining necessary permits, to submission of regulatory documents, every procedure can now be completed from a single place.”Investors will not need to meet any official physically at my office,” Paban said.Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) supports the establishment of BEZA OSS under a technical cooperation project.
