A photo of a sign reserving a picnic table at a popular beach has sparked outrage among locals.
The sign was spotted at Balmoral Beach on Sydney’s lower north shore on Saturday.
“Reserved on 8/31 starting at 1pm,” it said.
An angry local posted a photo on social media and revealed that another sign had also been pasted on a second table nearby.
Social media users called the act “unacceptable” and a “legal example.”
“Yes, no, you can’t reserve public tables,” wrote one.
“You want it, you work hard, and you sit there all day from 8 in the morning.”
A Mosman City Council spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that the council “does not accept reservations for picnic tables or promote their booking”.

Another local, Jimbo, called 2GB’s Ben Fordham on Monday morning to express his anger at the signs which he described as an affront to “good old fashioned decency”.
Jimbo said he was “pretty upset” by the act and told Fordham he would “try not to swear” while live.
“Imagine you’re walking into a park and hoping to enjoy the democratic pleasure of a picnic at one of the taxpayer-funded tables, and you get there and see this sign,” he said.
‘It’s like putting a private property sign on the steps of the Opera House, or charging entry to Bondi Beach.
“What’s next? Will there be time slots for walking on the grass? Will the use of swings be banned?”
Other locals said they would feel better about leaving the table if a ‘thank you’ had been included on the sign or if it was for a ‘super important event’ like a wedding.
