The election process has just started and the European Commission must take “suo moto action” against any violation

New Delhi:

The BJP on Tuesday raised the issue of objectionable comments made by Opposition leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan, against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lack of action against him, while urging the Election Commission to take strict action against him on its own the poll code. violations.

Highlighting the ‘different’ approach of poll officials in different states towards similar transgressions by politicians, a BJP delegation alleged that not much is being done against the errant leaders in states like Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. All these states are ruled by the rival parties of the BJP.

A BJP delegation, including Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and its general secretary Vinod Tawde, met the poll watchdog to highlight this “discrepancy”.

Opposition leaders continually “abuse” Prime Minister Modi and belittle women’s power and Indian culture, Tawde later told reporters.

The election process has only just begun and the European Commission should take “suo moto action” against any violation of the election code, he said.

He said that while action was recommended against Union minister Shobha Karandlaje, who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Karnataka, for her controversial remarks against Tamils, the objectionable comments by a Tamil Nadu minister and DMK leader have not attracted any censure .

In this context, Mr Tawde also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comparison of Shiva Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut with Mughal King Aurangzeb, who is considered by many to be a religious fanatic.

While action was needed in Shobha Karandlaje’s case, poll officials in other states are seen taking a different stand, he said.

“We have urged the Election Commission to take strict action at the right time and were assured that it would look into the matter,” he said.

BJP leaders Om Pathak and Sanjay Mayukh were also part of the delegation.

The BJP’s written submission to the EC related to Radhakrishnan’s alleged use of blasphemy against the Prime Minister during an election rally.

The party demanded that the poll body exclude him from the campaign and direct the DMK leader to apologise. An FIR must also be registered, it said.

The complaint also highlighted the alleged insult to Indian culture and personal attacks by DMK leaders, including former Union Minister A Raja. Raja had said that Tamil Nadu will never accept statements like Bharat Mata and Jai Shri Ram, the BJP noted.
