A leading Sydney lawyer has tragically taken his life.

The lawyer was an associate at Baker McKenzie, one of the world’s largest international law firms, which employs more than 300 lawyers in Australia.

NSW Police were reportedly called to Baker McKenzie’s Sydney offices in Tower One in Barangaroo after the suicide, and staff are said to be “devastated”.

A funeral for the lawyer was held in Sydney earlier this week.

Baker McKenzie Australia managing partner Anne-Marie Allgrove said support was being provided to all staff following his death.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague,” Allgrove said in a statement to the media.

“We are devastated for his family and friends, and have extended our deepest condolences and support at this very difficult time.

“The company and everyone who knew them is deeply mourning this loss.”

“We have provided on-site support to our staff in the Sydney office and have engaged our Employee Assistance Program provider to provide additional support across our three Australian offices.”

The lawyer’s death did not occur at work.

Police visited the law firm’s offices in Sydney’s Barangaroo Towers following the death, AFR reports.
