The British Academy said on Wednesday that the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards will take place in the traditional February slot, three weeks before the Oscars. The last edition of the British awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday 18 February. For this year, the academy had moved the event back to its usual February time, after being held in mid-March 2022.
First held in 1949, the BAFTA Film Awards has grown to become one of the biggest events in the global film calendar. “In 2024, the arts charity’s 75th awards will be dedicated to film.” It noted that the 2023 edition of the ceremony was watched by a peak audience of 3.8 million people in Britain via BBC One, marking the show’s highest ratings since 2019.
In addition, the awards ceremony attracted over nine million views of BAFTA content on social media and was also broadcast internationally.
Voting for the winners will take place in three rounds by the academy’s global voting film membership, made up of more than 7,500 industry creatives.
