Bad Hair trailer teases a dark horror satire starring Elle Lorraine

After making the hit Netflix series Dear White People for the past four years (based on his 2014 hit of the same name), writer-director Justin Simien returns with a new film entitled Bad Hair.

The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January to rave reviews, where it was quickly picked up by Hulu, with the streaming service debuting its first trailer on Thursday (via Hulu YouTube).

Elle Lorraine makes her feature film debut in Bad Hair as Anna Bludsoe, who in 1989 decides to buy a fabric to try to succeed in ‘the image-based world of music television’.

The trailer opens with Anna walking into a hair salon where she is greeted by a receptionist before sitting down for Virgie (Laverne Cox) to work on her hair.

As she combs through Anna’s hair, Virgie asks, “You’re not gentle, are you?” as Anna sheepishly answers, “It will be fine.”

Virgie starts to clamp her hair and it is immediately clear that Anna is uncomfortable while Virgie goes to work.

While Virgie continues to work, she says that “in some parts of India, a woman’s hair is her most prized possession,” while Anna seems to be on the verge of tears.

There’s also a photo of Anne’s father Amos Bludsoe (Blair Underwood) angrily saying, ‘You can’t bear to see yourself the way nature wants you.

There is also what appears to be a flashback shot of a young Anna cutting her own hair as Amos continues a rather ominous speech, while also seeing a shot of what appears to be the entire Bludsoe family.
