Bad Bunny has some choice insults for himself in the first promo for his upcoming episode of Saturday evening live.
The singer and actor will make his hosting debut for the October 21 episode and will also appear as a musical guest. Bad Bunny previously served as the musical guest for a season 46 episode that aired in February 2021 and featured host Regé-Jean Page.
In the video released Wednesday, cast member James Austin Johnson introduces the host in a WWE-style segment. When Johnson addresses the artist by his first name, Benito, and asks if he has any nerves heading into the performance, Bad Bunny responds, “Hell, no.” I like to be silly.”
Suddenly, a more assertive version of the star walks in from the back of the studio while holding a championship belt with the letters “SNL” on it, and antagonizes his gentler counterpart. “Well, I have a weekend update for you, amigo: you suck,” says the new Bad Bunny. “You put the ‘L’ in there SNL.”
Bad Bunny is a long-time fan of professional wrestling and has competed in several WWE events. He released his fifth solo studio album last week, titled Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana and has had acting roles in recent film Cassandro and last year’s action title Bullet train.
After darkness fell amid the writers’ strike, SNL Season 49 kicked off Saturday with host Pete Davidson and musical guest Ice Spice, along with guest appearances from Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. For the cold open, Davidson delivered a somber message about the war between Israel and Hamas and emphasized the value of comedy in times of tragedy.
