US retail agent gets surprise backlash after posting video about Coles’ Aussie products on shelves that ‘shocks’ her
- An American shared her ‘shocking’ findings from Coles
- Offended Aussies mock her in the comments
An agitated American who shared a video about what she finds ‘shocking’ in Australian supermarkets was quickly gagged by offended Aussies.
American expatriate Tate shared the clamp of several things she found odd while walking around a Coles in Melbourne on Thursday.
The first thing that caught her eye was the number of Tim Tam flavors available.
“There are so many Tim Tams,” she said.
Also on her list was a shelf of Vegemite, the large selection of fresh produce, including seasonal chestnuts, the variety of liqueurs, and Kewpie mayonnaise.
‘Wild!’ she noted.

Another product she found odd was a pack of Golden Gaytime bites, which read, “This brand is everywhere.”
Tate also highlighted how peppers are called bell peppers in the US.
The last items on her list were Allen’s snake lollipops and Coles’ Mix N’ Save Mochi fridge.
However, Tate’s excitement was misinterpreted by exasperated Aussies who shot her in the comments.
“Things in an American store that shock me as an Australian – guns,” one person pointed out bluntly.
“Never call them peppers again – you live in Australia now, you call them peppers,” said another.
“So many Tim Tams? Have you seen how many Oreos you have?” a third wrote.
Another said, “Americans who come to Australia expecting everything to be the same really think the US is the world.”
Tate responded to the comment in a follow-up video, “Girl, shut up, the Australian store (sic) is the best.”
In the video, she found peppers (above), which she called peppers, a wide variety of Tim Tams, and a shelf of Vegemite
Tate responded to the hate comments (above) in a follow-up video saying she was not trying to criticize Australian supermarkets
“Girl, no, because I never said that,” Tate said.
“Everyone seems confused. Tell me where in this video did I say your food or stores are worse?
‘I literally said, ‘oh my god, this is so exciting, so new’.
“If you go to a grocery store in another country, things will shock you. For example, I’ve never seen Vegemite on a shelf in a supermarket aisle. That’s shocking!
“That doesn’t mean I dislike all the food here. Or that America is better or has better food, no.
She added, “I even said some things are so good and I wish we had them.”
“So before you guys come get me and start making silly comments like people talking about ‘oh you’re just upset because we don’t have guns.’
‘As!? What!? Get it done.’
