In the wake of her ongoing divorce, Rachel Lindsay regrets her decision not to get a prenuptial agreement.
The Bachelor Nation star married Bryan Abasolo after he won season 13 of The Bachelorette in August 2017, in which Lindsay was the grand prize.
But by failing to take appropriate legal action to protect her finances before getting married, the Dallas, Texas native, who is actually an attorney, now faces the prospect of paying her ex-husband spousal support as part of her ongoing divorce.
“A lot of people say, ‘You’re a lawyer… Do you have a prenuptial agreement?’ I don’t,” the reality star revealed in the Hidden Gems Podcast with Natasha Parker Thursday.
He goes on to explain his thought process for his inaction, revealing: ‘The reason I didn’t do it is because the situation I’m in now… financially… is totally different than when I got married. We were more level and I wasn’t in California.
Rachel Lindsay, 39, is reconsidering her decision not to move forward with a prenup after Bryan Abasolo, 44, filed for spousal support amid the divorce.
Lindsay, 39, maintains that she told her then-fiancé that she thought a prenup was a good idea, but that they weren’t “on the same page.”
Regarding them getting married in August 2019 in “a different time,” he admitted that he was leading more with his heart than logic.
“I didn’t want it to be a big problem, so we didn’t have it,” he added. ‘Hindsight is 20/20. I would have done it.’
In his divorce filing in January, Abasolo listed New Year’s Eve as the date of his and Lindsay’s official separation, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.
The divorce petition in court after four years of marriage also states that the chiropractor is seeking spousal support.
Lindsay told podcast host Natasha Parker on Thursday’s episode that while their split was “amicable,” she thought Abasolo’s introduction was “unnecessarily complicated.”
The public announcement of their divorce in January came less than two months after Lindsay revealed that she and Abasolo had plans to try to grow their family one day with the arrival of a baby.
“It’s something we want,” the attorney shared with E! News in November. “It’s been harder than I thought it would be. We’re trying. You think, ‘Oh yeah, when it’s ready, I’ll do it.’ ‘Make it happen.’ But it’s been a little bit harder for us. But we’re definitely getting started.” the process.’
The handsome couple were very much in love when Abasolo won season 13 of The Bachelorette in August 2017.
The couple had been married for four years when the divorce petition was filed.
