The parents of a baby girl born in India with 26 fingers and toes have called her the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess.
The young woman, who was born in a hospital in Bharatpur, in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan, has seven fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot.
While doctors have described her condition as a genetic abnormality, her family is delighted and have publicly called her the reborn version of Dholagarh Devi, a well-known local deity whose temple is near where the girl was born.
Statues of the deity reveal that she is a girl with several arms.
The baby’s mother, Sarju Devi, 25, is said to be overjoyed.
Her brother, who has not been named, told local media: “My sister has given birth to a baby who has 26 fingers and we are considering him to be the incarnation of Dholagarh Devi.” We are very happy.’

He was born with two extra fingers on each hand.

He was also born with an extra toe on each foot.

A doctor at the hospital where she was born said she is a healthy baby, despite her extra fingers.
The baby’s father, Gopal Bhattacharya, is a police constable with the Central Reserve Police Force and is also said to be very happy.
Dr BS Soni, a doctor at the hospital where the baby was born, said: “There is no harm in having 26 fingers, but it is a genetic abnormality.” Otherwise, the girl is absolutely healthy.’
It is currently unknown if the family plans to have their newborn girl undergo surgery to reduce the number of fingers on each limb.
The baby’s birth comes just weeks after a traveler left his fellow passengers horrified when he took off his shoes and socks, exposing his extra toe.
