New South Wales Police Deputy Commissioner David Hudson said Wednesday’s arrests eliminated what remained of Alameddine’s criminal network.

“Today’s operation has cleaned up what was left of them on our coasts,” he said.

Police say the traditional code of silence around criminal gangs is being disrupted by a new generation of young people seeking fame on social media.

“Their (drill rap) is used to gain notoriety, the basis is that unless you committed the crime, you can’t sing or rap about it,” Strike Force Raptor Commander Jason Weinstein said.

Younes has not yet been charged.
