Brie Larson was left furious after being asked an awkward question about Johnny Depp’s controversial return to open the Cannes Film Festival this week.
The 33-year-old actress, who is a juror at Cannes, was visibly tense when asked if she would see Depp’s vehicle, Jeanne du Barry, after being one of the #MeToo movement’s most vocal advocates.

After Depp and Heard accused each other of physical and verbal abuse, a civil jury awarded Depp $10 million in damages and Heard $2 million.
Larson answered a reporter’s question at a jury press conference: “Are you asking me that? I‘m sorry, I don’t understand the correlation or why me specifically.

Diverting the question when pressed further, she said, “You’ll see, I suppose, if I see him.” And I don’t know what I’ll think of it if I do.
In remarks to the press on Monday, Cannes director Thierry Fremaux defended the choice, saying Depp is extraordinary in the film and paid no attention to the lawsuit.
“To tell you the truth, in my life, I have only one rule, it is the freedom to think, the freedom of expression and the freedom to act within a legal framework”, declared Fremaux.
“If Johnny Depp had been banned from acting in a movie, or if the movie was banned, we wouldn’t be here to talk about it.”
Jeanne Du Barry will see the 59-year-old actor return to the big screen for the first time in three years – with French actress Maiwenn alongside Depp as Jeanne as well as directing the film.
In 2017, Larson didn’t clap for Casey Affleck after presenting him with the Academy Award for Actor in a Leading Role.
Affleck has previously been sued by two women for sexual harassment allegedly committed while filming I’m Still Here – with both lawsuits settled in 2010.
She said at the time, “I think everything I did on stage spoke for itself.”

It also wasn’t the first time the actress seemed less than thrilled to present Affleck with a trophy.
Many noted his look of apparent dismay in January 2017 when the actor was presented with a Golden Globe for his performance.
Affleck didn’t win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January, and Larson was noticeably happier announcing the name of Denzel Washington that night, who won an actor for his work in “Fences.”
