Avril Lavigne is putting to rest the bizarre fan theory that claims she was replaced by a doppelganger named Melissa.
Rumors have circulated for years suggesting the punk princess, 39, died in 2003, shortly after the release of her debut album, Let Go, and was subsequently replaced by a doppelganger named Melissa.
“I mean, it’s fun for me,” the Canadian singer said Wednesday. Call Your Dad Podcast.
“On the one hand, everyone says, ‘Oh my God, you look exactly the same. “You haven’t aged a day.” But then other people say there’s a conspiracy theory that it’s not me.”
He added: “Honestly, it’s not that bad. It could be worse, right? I feel like I have a good one. I don’t feel like it’s negative. It’s not creepy at all.

“I mean, it’s fun for me,” the Canadian singer said on Wednesday’s Call Her Daddy podcast.
Both Avril and podcast host Alex Cooper were overcome with laughter as they delved into the enduring theory.
Avril then joked: “It’s obviously me, it’s so silly.”
Although there is some uncertainty about the exact origins of the conspiracy theory, it dates back to the early 2000s on various internet forums.
The theory suggests that Lavigne hired a double for public appearances out of fame exhaustion.
It is proposed that she passed away between her 2002 album Let Go and 2004’s Under My Skin, prompting the record company to replace her with Melissa.
In 2017, the conspiracy theory found new momentum when a thread about X brought to light several supposed indicators of Lavigne’s replacement.
Some of the notable ‘clues’ include changes in the singer’s appearance over the years and a photo shoot for her album Under My Skin in 2004, where the name ‘Melissa’ appeared to be scrawled on her hand.
The Call Me Daddy podcast isn’t the first time the pop star has addressed Melissa’s body double theory.
In 2022, the topic came up in an interview with Galore.
