Prime Minister’s associate Anthony Albanese has taken on a new role as ambassador for a major children’s charity.
In a sign that she is taking on greater responsibilities, Australian political ‘First Lady’ Jodie Haydon has taken on a new role as Ambassador for Redkite, a charity that provides support to families affected by childhood cancer.
Redkite offers emotional, financial and practical help for families who have a child under the age of 18 living with cancer.
Albanese, 60, has been dating Haydon, 44, since early 2020.
Ms Haydon, who was born in Bankstown, Western Sydney, to parents who were schoolteachers, now works as a women’s officer with the NSW Public Service Association.

In April, the prime minister closed questions about the couple’s wedding plans.
During his pre-Anzac Day radio appearance, prominent radio host Kyle Sandilands asked the Prime Minister if he planned to ask Mrs Haydon to marry him.
‘When are you going to propose to Jodi? Is that on the agenda? Sandyland asked.
“I don’t think it’s a matter for KIIS FM to determine,” Mr. Albanese replied.
‘Is she your twin flame?’ Sandilands then asked, referring to the spiritual idea of two individuals, usually lovers, sharing the same soul.
“She is certainly a much loved companion, and I consider myself incredibly lucky. We have a great relationship,’ said Mr. Albanese.

Mr. Albanese has been dating Ms. Haydon since early 2020.
Ms Haydon began dating Mr Albanese in early 2020 after they met at a conference in Melbourne where he was speaking.
Mr Albanese was previously married to NSW Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt for 19 years and with whom he shares a 21-year-old son, Nathan.
In July last year, Haydon said she knew she was in love with the prime minister when she received the terrifying news that he had been in a serious car accident.
The financial adviser had been dating the then leader of the opposition for barely a year when his car was struck by a Range Rover driven by a silversmith meters from his home in Sydney’s inner-west in January 2021.
Mr. Albanese was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

“When I got to the accident and saw the car before I saw Anthony, I remember thinking at the time, ‘This can’t end well,'” Haydon told 7News at the time.
And that overwhelming feeling of “What if I lose it?” And then I knew that, yes, I love him. And I love him deeply.
Mr Albanese and Ms Haydon got together because they both followed the same rugby league team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and lived close to each other in Sydney’s Inner West.
Ms Haydon, the daughter of two teachers, was born in 1978 in Bankstown and grew up on the Central Coast of New South Wales.
He dropped out of college and began a career in retirement, spending 20 years in banking and finance companies.
In February last year, Ms Haydon was hired as a women’s officer, following her role as a shop steward for the NSW Public Services Association.
