Australians were left shocked and outraged to see packets of Tim Tams on shelves for $6.
The price of the popular Arnott’s biscuit has left hundreds of people stunned, with some calling the high cost “un-Australian”.
While most expect premium prices at the pump, many were shocked to discover that pricing is the “new normal” at major supermarkets Coles and Woolworths.
An image was shared on Reddit to alert others about the price increase.
“I remember when a double pack was only like $4.50,” the Redditor captioned the post.
The price left customers wondering if they will ever see low prices at major retailers again.
“That’s not Australian at all,” one said.
“I saw this in Woolworths yesterday too and thought: are they crazy?” said another.
The price of Arnott’s Original Tim Tams has risen to $6 in major Australian supermarkets, angering shoppers.
“Try going gluten-free. They’re more expensive and only come in seven per pack,” added a third.
“This country is fucked,” wrote another person.
“Literal gas station prices,” added another.
Another said: “I remember when Tim Tams were $2.50.”
An Arnott’s spokesperson told FEMAIL that input costs have increased, leading to the price hike.
“Like most Australian manufacturers, we are experiencing a significant increase in our input costs, including the rising price of cocoa. This has led us to make the difficult decision to increase the price of our Tim Tam biscuits,” the spokesperson said.
‘We continue to invest in promotional programs with our retailers throughout the year, to ensure that consumers can purchase our products at great prices.
‘These changes are necessary for Arnott’s to remain competitive as an Australian manufacturer and continue to make the delicious products that Australians know and love.’
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Coles and Woolworths for comment.
Earlier this year, a pack of Tim Tams cost a staggering $11.70 at a petrol station in Kalumburu, in Western Australia’s far north.
