A furious debate has erupted online after an Australian woman claimed that a popular… pub served a ‘pathetic’ salad.

The woman posted images of the salad that came with the $31 parmigiana she ordered at the Hawthorn Hotel in Melbourne’s city centre on Saturday.

The salad consisted of six lettuce leaves and a few slices of red onion.

“I’m so sorry, but isn’t this the most pathetic ‘homemade salad’ you’ve ever seen in a pub?” she began in the video.

“What are you thinking? If I just wanted lettuce, I’d go to Woolworths.

The TikTok video titled “Hawthorn Hotel, explain yourself” has since attracted 78,000 views.

There were mixed opinions on the Internet as to whether the salad was acceptable.

“That seems very sad,” one viewer commented.

Another added: “That’s really unfortunate.”

A third person wrote: ‘The whole baby thing.’

Some thought the salad was just a “side dish” and added that hardly anyone ate them anyway.

Others liked the look of the salad and said they would have been “happy” with it.

“I think that’s fine, green salads are underrated,” wrote one viewer.

Another added: “It’s basically a side dish, you have fries and parmig, those are the important parts.”

Another commented: “Nobody eats the salad.”

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Hawthorn Hotel and the woman for comment.
