An Australian woman has been beaten and killed by a truck while driving in America.

The 23-year-old woman, named by NBC New York as Madison Jane Lyden, rode a bicycle past Central Park on the Upper West Side of New York City at around 5 p.m. Friday when she was beaten and killed.

A private sanitation truck hit Lyden, causing severe head trauma, according to reports.

She was rushed to the Roosevelt Hospital, but after trying to revive her, they declared her dead.

NBC New York reported that the woman was traveling north into the designated bicycle lane when a car parked in front of her, causing her to deviate.

While trying to avoid the car, Lyden swerved into traffic and was hit by the truck traveling in the same direction.

The driver of the car and the truck remained at the site to give the NYPD officers their statements while the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad investigated.
