Australian singer-songwriter Jack Colwell died at the age of 34, about to release his long-awaited second album.
An obituary in the guardian confirmed the tragic news. However, the cause of death has not been revealed.
Despite only releasing one album, Swandream, in 2020, Jack had a major behind-the-scenes role in the Australian music industry for years, working on projects such as arranging vocals for indie pop group Architecture in Helsinki.
The album was a critical success, with NME declaring it one of the best Australian albums of that year.
Jack was also a passionate advocate for LGBTQI+ issues. In 2016, he released the song No Mercy in honor of Brisbane teenager Tyrone Unsworth, who committed suicide after being bullied for his sexual orientation.

“For me, No Mercy links my experience of homophobia from my childhood to who I am today in my adult life as a gay man,” he said.
‘It is a recovery of the self and a rejection of homophobic language. The song acts as a mirror for the bully, to challenge him with his own words and direct attention towards him and his shameful actions. I don’t tolerate harassment.’

Jack’s latest social media post revealed that he was about to release his second album.
“Hi everyone, I hope to release new music soon,” he wrote on Facebook last month.
‘The mixes are almost finished and mastering is booked. I’ve been saying for a long time that LP2 will be with you soon and that day is not far away!’
ARIA Award-winning songwriter Sarah Blasko, who produced Jack’s debut album, took to Instagram on Friday to share a heartfelt tribute to her late friend.

Posting a photo of the couple together, Sarah said Jack was one of her “favourite people in the world”.
‘One of my favorite people in this entire world, who possessed the charm of a thousand princes and a musical spirit like no other, has passed on to another kingdom. “Good night, dear Jack, your presence has been changed forever,” Sarah wrote.
Sarah’s followers were quick to offer their condolences and their own memories of Jack.
A beautiful and talented human being. It was always a pleasure to be in his company,” commented one.

Another offered: “A wonderful human being and such a kind soul. He touched the lives of so many people and will be sorely missed. The world will not be the same without you, Jack.”

‘We met when we were 14 and loved him instantly. “My first best friend,” she wrote.
“I have spent almost two-thirds of my life loving him, even in the years we didn’t speak, because I knew that when I saw him again, we would pick up where we left off.
“I am devastated and furious.”
