Major concerns grow over Jannik Sinner’s physical condition

Good afternoon and we’re back here at Melbourne Park!

It’s been a warm and windy day here, but the conditions are perfect for tennis and we have some big matches starting tonight.

Ben Shelton just won the first set against Lorenzo Sonego in their quarterfinal clash, which will be followed by the evening match as Jannik Sinner takes on Alex de Minuar on Rod Laver Arena later tonight. .

But concerns are increasing over the Italian’s physical condition. It came after reports yesterday claimed he had allegedly been “suffering from pneumonia”.

It came after he was caught shaking uncontrollably during his win against Holger Rune on Monday.

The reigning Australian Open champion had left the court for medical treatment and told his team he was feeling dizzy.

Despite that, Sinner returned to training this morning ahead of his match against De Minaur, but the world number one is understood to have practiced today in a closed-door session at Melbourne Park.

The real reason behind this move is unknown and perhaps it could be a precaution to ensure that no prying eyes can see him warming up ahead of tonight’s crucial match.

But the move has still sparked speculation and concern that he is still battling an illness.

Another controversial technological moment

Iga Swiatek advanced to the semi-finals of the Australian Open on Wednesday afternoon after claiming a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Emma Navarro.

But there was a controversial moment in the game. The five-time Grand Slam winner was taken to the net by Navarro and appeared to defend herself against a dropshot from the American star.

Navarro continued playing and took the ball to the other side of the court with Swiatek running in to hit his opponent and win the point.

But Navarro became enraged at the moment and confronted the referee in a fit of rage asking why he wasn’t allowed to review the video.

Navarro had been pushing to break serve at the time, but was unable to make the breakthrough with Swiatek holding.

Sinner: “I wasn’t feeling very well”

Sinner spoke about how he was feeling during his post-match press conference earlier in the week.

But he did not comment on the specific ailment he suffered from.

“I wasn’t feeling very good,” said the 23-year-old. ‘I think we saw that today I was struggling physically. I knew today was going to be very, very difficult, playing against a tough opponent but also playing against myself a little bit.

At least I felt a little better when I got back on the court. I felt like the face looked a little better, the color had come back a little. The doctor gave me some medicines.

Sinner had also consulted a medical professional before taking to the court for his clash against Rune on Monday, adding to speculation that he had been suffering from an illness ahead of the fourth-round clash.

I already spoke with the doctor before entering the field. I had a little checkup.

Yeah, it was kind of helpful. At least I felt a little better when I got back on the court. I felt like the face looked a little better, the color had come back a little.

So, yeah, that helped, for sure. You know, they are difficult conditions. You know, it was hot yesterday. Today it was hot again.

You know, every player struggles a little bit. When you’re not where you want to be from a health standpoint, it’s also even harder, but it helped, yes. He gave him a little medication and then he didn’t get any better.

So what happened to Sinner?

Major concerns were raised about Jannik Sinner’s well-being during his victory against Holger Rune on Monday.

It was a particularly hot and muggy day in Australia, with temperatures reaching a high of 32ºC.

He worked his way to a 6-3 lead in the first set, but began to look increasingly uncomfortable during the match. At one point he was even seen shaking.

Jim Courier claimed he looked like a ‘zombie’ when the Italian sat on his bench during the exchange.

He would later leave the court for a medical timeout that lasted around 11 minutes, and Rune claimed he had been left to “cook in the heat” on the court.

He said he had been feeling unwell before the match but came back, losing the second set before sealing a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory.

Here comes De Minaur.

Tonight’s match should start a little earlier than yesterday’s big clash between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

Play is expected to begin between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. following the quarterfinal clash between Ben Shelton and Lorenzo Sonego at Rod Laver Arena.

And I just saw De Minaur arrive at Melbourne Park for the game.

He’s making his way through the players’ gym area as he prepares for the blockbuster clash.

It is the first time in his career that De Minaur has reached the quarter-finals of his Slam at home and there was great excitement after the Australian booked his place in the tournament on Monday night.

His fiancée Katie Boulter and mother Esther were seen jumping and celebrating as De Minaur beat Alex Michelsen in three sets.

Esther even started crying before giving Boulter a big hug after the game.

Has Katie Boulter left Australia?

Katie Boulter issued a cryptic message Tuesday night indicating she may have left the country.

She and Alex de Minaur have dazzled over the past two weeks in Melbourne, but the Brit suffered a disappointing second-round loss against Veronika Kudermetova last Thursday.

Since then, she stayed in Melbourne to watch her new fiancé reach the Australian Open quarter-finals for the first time.

Boulter has been considered an honorary Australian by many of the home fans at Melbourne Park, with one commentator even asking: “Can we start calling you Aussie Kate?”

In the Instagram post, she posted several photos of her playing in Melbourne, Sydney and a photo of her and De Miñaur in Kooyong.

She captioned the post: “Thank you Aussie for making me feel at home.”

But the British star added two emojis after the note indicating that he may have left the country.
