An Australian mother is furious after discovering rat poison slipped into a bag of Halloween candy used by her son and his friend at a party.
Pennie Smith, from the Illawarra region of New South Wales, said her son Tyrell and his friend, both aged 12, went to the neighborhood event on October 31 and put in their bags of sachets of Ratsak poison, which is also deadly to humans.
She said her son’s friend found one of the bags and was holding it in his hands when he asked her if she thought “it was funny” that someone had given it to them .
“It upsets me deeply, I was just horrified. Who would do that? Ms Smith told the Illawarra Mercury.
She immediately grabbed the two children’s candy bags and searched them before throwing them away entirely due to the risk of poison contamination.

Ms Smith said she found two sachets of Ratsak in her son and his friend’s candy bags and one of them had been opened and the bait was missing (pictured).
She found two Ratsak sachets but, worryingly, one of them had been opened and the blue bait was missing.
She urged other parents, especially those in her area, to carefully check their children’s Halloween candy bags.
“Please keep your eyes peeled. Imagine if a child put that in their mouth,” she said.
Ms Smith said she was furious as her town of Windang held a huge party for Halloween with hundreds of children and parents in attendance and someone was out to cause harm.
New South Wales Police said they were aware of the report and were investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

She immediately searched both bags (photo) and threw them away. She urges other parents to check their own children’s reserves.
