A mother aware of her style revealed how the idea of adding a touch of elegance to her home became a business that now achieves an amazing $ 5,000 per month.
Kylie Hughes, based in Gold Coast, runs Stylkea, a business she launched 12 months ago.
She sells peel-and-stick decals that transform ordinary Ikea and Kmart furniture into elegant pieces using decorative aluminum panels that she designed herself.
It is an idea that one's mother says she addressed when trying to renovate her own home with a chain budget and has proven to be a success. She has also been nominated for an award that celebrates her entrepreneurial efforts.

Ms. Hughes explained that she has no experience in interior design, however, she has always been aware of trends, spending hours every week looking at magazines.
She said that while she "coveted" a lot of what she saw, the family's budget during the renovation of her home meant she needed to reduce spending.
Instead of rejecting her desire to add a touch of luxury, she sat down and began to sketch her ideas and, with the help of her husband, turned them into models.
"I asked my husband to design panels on the computer and I added legs and handles to a piece of furniture he had … and my friends told me that I should do this to earn a living," he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
Gold Coast's mom, Kylie Hughes (pictured), has been included as a finalist in the Emerging Business category for the national AusMumpreneur Awards.
It's a trick that has not only saved thousands of dollars and made your home effortlessly stylish, but has also made it easy for others who want to achieve a similar look.
"In other (stores) you can buy these delicious tables next to $ 1200," he said.
Or you can get a very simple look like Ikea's Malm bedside table, which costs approximately $ 69 and uses our Greek-style panels. It looks similar to $ 100, so it's a savings of $ 1,100.

While Ms. Hughes's business is now a devastating success, she spent three years bringing her idea to fruition.
Speaking with Daily Mail Australia earlier, she explained that her days were devoted to her daily work as a copywriter and as the mother of her son Oscar, aged six.
"I worked at night and on weekends and I also built the website myself, so he taught me e-commerce," he said.
The panels, ranging from $ 9.95 to $ 34.95 and shipped worldwide, currently come in a variety of materials and do not require any tools to apply
"They are versatile, so they match a wide range of different decorating styles," said Ms. Hughes.
"The weather was one of the biggest obstacles, it took me 18 months since I decided to try it to open sales."
Stylkea, which has been in operation for 12 months, has proved successful, so much so that Ms. Hughes quit her full-time job four weeks ago to concentrate on building the business.
"It's great to be in a creative role and enjoy artistic expression," he said.

Ms. Hughes was working on the store's designs and website while juggling her daily work as a copywriter and as the mother of her son, Oscar, six years old.
The first set of panels was designed to fit the Ikea ranges, including Malm, Besta and Kallax, and were done in a "classic" style
There is also a choice of white foam that can be modified with spray or acrylic paint, as well as five different versions in gold and silver.
"They are versatile, so they match a wide range of different decorating styles," said Ms. Hughes. & # 39; It all depends on your imagination and how you want to use them & # 39;
"Some are glamor and luxury and others lend themselves beautifully to a nursery or a child's bedroom."
