An accused Australian child predator has been arrested in the United States, with his youngest alleged victim just two weeks old.
Detectives in Oklahama believe that Trevor “Wombats” Rombouts would follow the same predatory pattern to move in with a woman and then attack her children.
He is accused of sexual abuse of children in Australia, the US and possibly Europe.
The Oklahoma authorities said the youngest alleged victim of Trevor Rombouts was a two-week baby in Victoria.
The 52-year-old has been on the run since the Victorian police gave orders for his arrest in the late 1990s.
“This is clearly a predator,” Detective Lieutenant Jillian Phippen of the Special Victims Department of Tulsa Police in Oklahoma told AAP on Wednesday.
Tulsa investigators began investigating Rombouts last year when a victim in Oklahoma came forward to say that he had attacked her for years when she was younger.
Lt Phippen said the investigation showed that Rombouts followed the same predatory pattern to withdraw from women who had young children and then attack the children.
Two of the alleged American victims of Rombouts were in Oklahoma.
A third was in Texas.
“Once we started looking at it, my detective thought,” There will be more victims just because of his behavior and how he treated the victim, “Lippen Phippen said.
“Once he started diving, it happened.
“We found more victims who could come forward and tell their story.
“We contacted Australia where he lived and we received back information saying that he had also been looked at for child abuse.

“Our red flags went up and we knew this was a predator and he wouldn’t stop.”
The investigation also revealed that Rombouts had lived in Europe and he possibly had victims in Belgium, Lt Phippen said.
They tracked down Rombouts on Monday in Joplin, Missouri and detained him.
The Australian warrants from the nineties relate to the alleged abuse of three young children, including a baby who was only two weeks old.
Tulsa prosecutors have accused Rombouts of two counts of sexual abuse of children and two counts of shameful molestation.
The police are also afraid that the accused pedophile might have struck Belgium, while traveling around the world avoiding the Victorian police (stock image)
