An Australian worker has been praised for his hilarious response when police stopped his Uber driver for speeding.

Fynn Ellmers was riding in the passenger seat of the rideshare vehicle when the driver was stopped by highway patrol on the Gold Coast last week.

Mr. Ellmers offered to translate on behalf of the police officer as the driver seemed to have difficulty understanding English.

“Excellent, that would be nice,” the policeman replied gratefully.

The officer then told the driver he would be subjected to a random breathalyzer test after he was caught driving 18 km/h over the speed limit.

“You can translate it if you want,” he told Ellmers.

The Australians were left in hysterics after the worker leaned over to the driver, tapped him on the shoulder and said: “Bro, too fast.”

“You don’t speak…? That’s excellent. You’re a real champion,” the officer replied, unimpressed.

Mr. Ellmers assured the driver that he would still give him five stars on the app.

“Well, my brother, you can’t cry over spilt milk,” he said.

“You can still drive me, bro. I love you. Thanks, five stars.

“Thanks for taking me home.”

Australians were quick to praise Ellmer’s “brazen” response to police on Instagram, where the video has racked up more than 4 million views.

“I’m howling. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen this over and over again,” one person wrote.

“This is exactly the behaviour that comes to mind when I hear the word ‘shameless’,” said a second.

A third commented: “I haven’t laughed so hard in a while.”

“It was so weird that a friend saw it on my Snapchat story and thought it was really funny, so I posted it on TikTok, then on Instagram and I think it’s got like 4.2 million views on Insta, which is crazy,” she said.

“I just need a little luck and a little more confidence to keep making more funny videos and it would definitely be a good way to get off the commercial site.”
