Australian Idol winner announced after record public vote sees fan favourite walk away victorious

On Monday’s final episode of Australian Idol, the bottom three came down to one worthy winner.

The final three were Amy Reeves from Broome, WA, Denvah Baker-Moller from Rockhampton, Queensland and Dylan Wright from Bangalow, NSW.

It quickly came down to Amy and Dylan, who sang their hearts out for their last chance to win the record-breaking public vote.

The final decision was made and Dylan emerged victorious, winning a $100,000 cash prize and a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.

Dylan was speechless and managed to say, ‘Thank you. I don’t know. I’m about to cry! So thanks!’

She then performed her winning single, Paper Heart, to rapturous applause.

Before the announcement, judge Kyle Sandilands said both Dylan and Amy would have a bright future.

“As judges, we want to offer the best we’ve found,” Kyle said.

‘I would be delighted to manage and sign these two. They both have incredible records. Could not be happier. “They are both just fantastic.”

Judge Marcia Hines agreed with Kyle’s assessment.

“Look, you’re going to work hard because you guys have a great work ethic,” he told the nervous couple.

I’ve seen it on this stage every time you perform. So you know, have fun with it. It’s a crazy business. But enjoy the ride.

Amy was gracious during the long period leading up to the final announcement.

‘Just thank you so much for bringing me here regardless of the outcome. I feel really honored to be here. Thank you very much,’ she said.
