The Australian Idol winner will be announced on March 26.

And the remaining six contestants face a ‘selection’ in the coming week, with three of them almost certainly leaving before the final.

The top six remaining singers are Amali Dimont, Phoebe Stewart, Josh Hannan, Royston Sagigi-Baira, Ben Sheehy, and Anya Hynninen.

the daily telegraph reports that the ‘final cut’ challenge for contestants is a way for Channel Seven to attract viewers who will vote for their favorite songs in the singing competition.

In its original format, Australian Idol’s final season in 2009 ran for 20 weeks, but the 2023 season will end after just 9.

The much-hyped reboot has been regularly beaten in the ratings by reality TV rivals Married At First Sight and Australian Survivor since it debuted on January 30.

According to Seven’s own data, Idol averages a total of 821,000 fans per episode, which includes its metro ratings and viewers watching to catch up.

This compares poorly to MAFS, which is still the biggest thing on TV, with an average total audience of just under 2 million viewers per episode.

Australian Survivor, meanwhile, is a ratings winner for embattled Channel 10.
