Former Australian Idol favourite Courtney Murphy has taken the brave step of returning to acting and recording after being diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer.

Courtney, 45, who rose to fame on the 2004 singing competition, revealed she was battling the cruel disease in April.

After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, Courtney the musician delighted fans earlier this month with a show in Freemantle, WA.

And now it looks like Courtney is ready to release new music with his band The Murphy Brothers.

Courtney and her brothers Chris and Kieran Murphy will release a new single called Perfect Little Mess on July 3.

The brothers have also prepared a new album called Something in the Water.

“With all the love and support we’ve received these past few months, it’s great to be able to share new music,” Chris said. Perth now.

The beloved singer’s brothers, Kieran and Chris, shared the devastating news of Courtney’s cancer battle via a GoFundMe Launch of the page in April.

“Our beautiful brother Courtney Murphy is ready for the fight of his life,” his family wrote on the fundraising page.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you that Court has been diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer. It is very serious.

‘As a self-employed musician with a wife and three young children, Courtney will not be able to work for the foreseeable future, leaving his young family struggling much harder than we want.

‘Anyone who knows Courtney knows that her heart is as big as her voice and we have created this GoFundMe page in hopes that we can ease some of the burden on her young family.

The shocking news follows the Murphy family losing their father to brain cancer.

‘We lost our dad in January to a brain tumor. “Now Court is fighting for his own life,” said his brother Chris.
