And now Silia Kapsis, 17, from Sydney, has revealed she faced criticism from “experts” who cast a shadow over her chances because she was “too young”.

She also co-wrote her powerful song Liar for the competition.

“He approached my mother, because we go to Greece often, and told her there was a chance I could represent a country at Eurovision and we said, ‘wow,'” she said.

“So we went back there and recorded the song, and mom and I were 50/50 as to the possibilities, but we really had no idea.”

In a twist, Silia originally hoped to represent Greece.

The diminutive singer, who was born and raised in Sydney, has roots in both Cypriot and Greek heritage.

His music career began with his debut song, ‘Who Am I?’ Released when she was only 12 years old.

Since then, he has continued to advance in the industry and released his second track, ‘No Boys Allowed’ in March 2023, followed by ‘Disco Dancer’, which was released in May 2023.

She is the second Australian in two years to represent Cyprus. Sydney’s Andrew Lambrou reached the final in 2024 and finished 12th.

It comes after Australia’s entry, Electric Fields, was eliminated from the competition.

The musical duo put on the show of their lives in Malmö, Sweden, on Tuesday in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to win over the public, as they failed to qualify for the grand final that will take place on Saturday.
