An “enraged” Australian man who was fed up with his selfish neighbours taking up more parking space than they needed decided to take matters into his own hands.

Matt de Boer, a former AFL player based in Sydney, spoke about the “sneaky” trick he used to “educate” selfish parkers on a podcast with Dylan Buckley.

“In Sydney you know what it’s like sometimes to get a parking space,” he said in a video.

‘And right in front of our house there was clearly space for four cars, you can see at a glance that there is space for four, but the way people park, there were always three.

“And I thought, ‘Parking is selfish.’ I would get mad because I would get home and I couldn’t park in front. I would have to try to park around the corner or I would end up having to walk quite a bit.”

Although Matt first considered writing a note to the “selfish” neighbors, he decided there had to be a better way to get the message across.

“So I went and bought some fluorescent tape and Rach was like, ‘What are you doing? ‘”

Matt then waited until it got dark before going outside and measuring out what would be four equivalent parking spaces, marking each spot with the fluorescent tape.

Former AFL player Matt De Boer was “infuriated” by “selfish” drivers taking up more space than they needed to park, so he decided to use fluorescent tape to clearly mark each spot.

The common problem of drivers taking up too much space and not leaving enough room for others is an annoying problem on many busy Sydney streets.

The common problem of drivers taking up too much space and not leaving enough room for others is an annoying problem on many busy Sydney streets.

And his creative approach worked.

“Sure enough, I came back the next day and there were three cars parked perfectly in their spots and I took the fourth one,” he said.

“People are hungry for guidance, you just have to show it to them sometimes.”

Australians were impressed with Matt’s straightforward approach to the common parking problem and praised him for taking the matter on himself.

“It’s an absolute stroke of genius. I’ve been saying for years that councils should put lines for all the free spaces on all the streets. That’s why large car parks work, because there are exclusive parking spaces,” said one.

Another suggested that Matt take it to the next level and get some spray paint to make the new parking spaces “official.”

This comes after drivers in Melbourne were outraged to see a giant GMC pickup truck taking up two parking spaces.

Fed up with these giant pickup trucks, many angry Australians are demanding drastic action be taken against the owners.

And some councils across Australia are even investigating the possibility of charging drivers of large vehicles extra to park their cars.

People were excited about the photo of the pickup at the Melbourne mall.

One Australian was very blunt in his response: “I hate those damn SUVs so much.”
