Australian cycling hero Conor Leahy received a kiss from his glamorous girlfriend after helping his nation defeat fierce rivals Great Britain in the men’s team pursuit.

Debutant Leahy combined with Oliver Bleddyn, Sam Welsford and Kellan O’Brien to beat the all-conquering British and win gold at the Paris Olympics, clocking a lightning-fast time of three minutes and 42.067 seconds in the final.

And after sealing his fate as Olympic champion, Leahy headed straight to the crowd where he was embraced by his girlfriend Zara Awramenko.

She later took to Instagram to congratulate her boyfriend and teammates.

“Olympic champions,” she wrote alongside four gold medal emojis.

“Congratulations guys for an epic race and a gold medal.”

The quartet broke the men’s world record in their semi-final run on Tuesday but didn’t need to set the same electric pace to beat the Brits.

It was a thrilling finale, but two of the British drivers touched wheels on the final lap and nearly crashed, widening the gap.

Leahy was only a reserve for the Tokyo Games and could not contain his joy after Wednesday’s victory.

“I don’t think I’ve processed it yet,” she told Nine. “Especially with what happened in the last cycle. I just wanted to be part of that team and be as close to it as I could be. It’s motivated me, it’s driven me a lot to get to this position.”

“But today is about winning, and I knew we did everything we could to achieve it and I can’t believe it.

‘Is incredible.’
