An underground coal miner has revealed he takes home almost $300,000 a year.
The worker was interviewed in Brisbane’s CBD this week by a member of the Getahead app, which works similarly to Tinder but for jobs.
When asked how much he earned, the man said that since he was self-employed, he took home just under $300,000.
A Brisbane man has revealed he earns around $300,000 a year as a self-employed coal miner.
“My whole family has always done it (and) I’ve been doing it since I was 17,” he said.
“Anyone can do it, you just have to do a Standard 11 first.”
A Standard 11 is a government-certified training module that must be completed by anyone wishing to enter the mining industry.
It was developed to ensure workers understand proper safety information and obligations and typically takes two days to complete.
The miner warned that the work is not for the faint of heart, and that sometimes they work up to a kilometer underground.

“I’m not scared, but there are other people who have gone down for the first time and wanted to go out again because they couldn’t stand it,” he said.
“It’s obviously dangerous work, there are strata conditions, roof falls, gas explosions.”
His fellow TikTokkers pointed out how casual the miner dressed despite his enormous wealth.
He was seen wearing a pair of thongs, blue shorts and a printed shirt.
I also had shopping bags from JB Hi-Fi and Rebel Sport.
The average salary of underground miners is around $150,000, according to the job recruitment platform Talent.
It is understood that since the man is a subcontractor, he can earn about double that amount.
