A friend gets into trouble after accidentally smearing his girlfriend’s brand new couch in car oil during their move.
The Australian couple’s friend made an urgent plea on social media to seek help in removing the unsightly stains from the light gray lounge.
‘Need help. A friend of mine just moved into her first house and her partner accidentally threw their new lounge into a pile of car oil,” she wrote in a Facebook group.
“Does anyone have any ideas for getting it all out or as much as possible?”

While hundreds of people offered their helpful and practical cleaning methods, others saw the funny side of the dilemma.
‘I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your friend’s partner,’ wrote one woman, another joked: ‘Insurance! Life insurance, I hope he has good coverage.’
One asked, “Can I file for divorce on behalf of someone else?” while another suggested, ‘I’d put the couch against the wall, as for the partner, I’d put it through the wall.’
Others joked that the girlfriend should just “throw him in the trash” or find a professional cleaner and a professional marriage counselor.
Meanwhile, many offered their helpful tips for removing the stains.
“My husband is a car mechanic and he said a degreaser breaks down the oil and takes it out,” suggested one woman.

Many urged the girlfriend to contact a professional cleaner first before tackling the grease themselves.
A professional cleaner advised against using supermarket products.
“Please don’t try anything from the supermarket or you’ll only make it worse,” she said, adding: “You’ll have to go to a commercial cleaning company.
“They’ll sell you the bottle of stuff that you have to spray and set first. It is a dust safe degreaser for things like wine, coffee and oil etc. Then rent a carpet cleaner or buy a Bissell steam cleaner.”
Many pointed out that the stains are on the back of the sofa so they can simply style it against a wall where no one will ever see them.
“Push it against the wall, out of sight out of mind, she’ll never know,” one wrote.
