A young Australian woman was almost in tears when she saw a comment written on her receipt after ordering takeaway food from a restaurant in Bali.
Montana was visiting the Indonesian island when she purchased several dishes and noticed the name “Mrs. Cantik” printed on the receipt.
She looked closer and found that the name referred to her as one of the customers.
Montana shared her TikTok story on June 26 to reveal the shocking moment she found the hidden detail.
“I bet she expected me not to know this word in Indonesian, but I did,” he said.
Montana explained that staff usually ask for his name to include it in the order, but on this occasion they did not do so.
“I thought they must have remembered it… wrong. She put an Indonesian description as the name of my order,” he said.
“What he didn’t realize was that it was on the receipt.”
The name is believed to have been used by restaurant staff to help them identify food orders placed by each customer.
Montana then asked the waiter if that was his name.
Australian traveller Montana (pictured) discovered the name referred to her as one of the restaurant’s customers after she ordered takeaway from the Bali restaurant.
The word “cantik” means beautiful in Bahasa, an Indonesian language, which is why Montana was called “the beautiful lady.”
“I almost cried,” Montana said.
He showed a copy of the receipt that was taped to the top of the brown tote bag.
Social media users said they thought the term may have been disrespectful.
“I thought it was rude but how stupid of me to forget that Indonesians, especially in Bali, are the most lovely people,” one wrote.
“Why did I think that was such a nice bad word?!” said another.
Montana said she nearly cried after the waiter told her the name on the receipt (pictured) referred to her.
Others said they had also revealed similar messages when visiting restaurants in Bali.
“I received a receipt that said ganteng (meaning handsome),” one person wrote.
Montana said the name on the receipt made her day.
