The extraordinary dashcam of a person named ‘Karen’ blocking traffic to take photos of another motorist after his car collided with her vehicle has divided the internet.
The shocking incident happened on Burke Road in Kew, in Melbourne’s east, on Tuesday morning.
The dashcam showed the woman driving a red BMW hatchback trying to overtake the other driver on the narrow road.
The hatchback struck the front of the vehicle before both drivers stopped, forcing oncoming traffic to stop.
The woman, who was wearing jeans, a jacket and sporting a pair of black sunglasses, got out of the BMW and began taking photos of the male driver.
The angry man urged the woman to move her vehicle and turn onto a side street so the two could exchange license and registration information.
“Go around the corner, we can exchange details,” the man said.
The woman was seen making hand gestures before the man said: “Okay, I have dashcam footage, you can keep it.”
The woman (pictured) got out of the BMW and began taking photos of the male driver, after he hit the other car while trying to overtake the vehicle.
The woman continued taking photos and then walked around the front of her car to get a clearer shot with her phone.
“Go around the corner and get out of everyone’s way,” the man shouted.
The woman eventually returned to her car and the two drivers pulled over to the side of the road.
Footage of the incident went viral after being posted online.
Many viewers criticized the woman for trying to overtake the vehicle incorrectly.
“Why do they think they have so much right and that they own the road because they have expensive cars?” commented one viewer.
Another added: “Overtaking on the outside, where there is no lane, and then merging carelessly. That BMW driver should hand in her licence.”
Others criticized her for being a “Karen,” a slang term for a person perceived as entitled or overly demanding.
“Why do all Karens use the same pose when taking a photo?” wrote one viewer.
Another added: ‘Why do they think they have so much right and own the road because they have expensive cars?’
The woman stopped her car (pictured) on the narrow road after the minor accident, which happened on Burke Road in Kew, Melbourne’s east, at around 10.30am on Tuesday.
Others praised the male driver for being alert for oncoming traffic.
“It’s nice to see a driver thinking about other drivers,” one person wrote.
However, some onlookers believed that the man was at fault for causing the minor accident because he failed to give way.
“Blame the dash cam. If he didn’t use his blinker, Blind Harry knows those lanes merge,” one commented.
Motorists are urged to check whether the road is clear before safely overtaking another vehicle.
Dozens of motorists criticised the BMW driver (pictured) for incorrectly attempting to overtake the other vehicle, while some blamed the male driver for failing to give way.
Drivers should check their mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles and other vehicles and should signal to warn the other driver of their intent to pass.
Motorists should also be alert to side streets and other nearby lanes to ensure that no other vehicles are entering the road before passing.
Drivers in Victoria who illegally overtake another vehicle can be fined between $288 and $385 for the offence and may receive two demerit points.
