Australian actor Peter Hardy has been revealed as the victim who tragically drowned on a Fremantle beach last week at the age of 66.

Hardy, best known for his roles in The Daughters of McLeod and Chopper, was snorkeling off South Beach on Thursday.

According western australiaHardy had traveled to Perth from London to visit his mother.

His brother Michael shared the tragic news on social media on Friday: “I am devastated to say that my brother, Peter Hardy, passed away suddenly this morning… Rest in peace my loving little brother.”

Tributes have started pouring in following the tragic news of Hardy’s death.

‘This news is such a heartbreaking shock. He will be held in the wide arms of the ocean he grew up beside, and in the hearts of all those he welcomed into his vital and resourceful orbit. Sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” Ross Anderson wrote.

His friend Andy Burns said: “On the morning of March 16th a dear friend was taken from us… the amazingly beautiful Peter Hardy drowned while snorkelling off South Beach Perth.”

“He was 66 and looking like a Greek god, so fit and so happy to be back in his native WA visiting from London where he had made his home.”

Hardy, best known for his roles in McLeod's Daughters and Chopper, was scuba diving off South Beach on Thursday.

“Words cannot express how deeply I feel this loss. We have been close friends since we lived together in Neutral Bay Sydney in the mid-1980s.”

“He was a superb actor, a wonderful singer and guitarist, he also played drums and sax. He always liked acting in the theater, as well as in movies and on television. He decided to buy a boat on the London canals which he beautifully set up with some recording equipment and would send me recorded guitar tracks there to add accompaniments to.

“Sincere condolences to all his family and many friends on this devastating loss, especially to his beautiful girlfriend Lysa, our thoughts are with you…”

According to The West Australian, Hardy had traveled to Perth from London to visit his mother.
