Australian actor Liam McIntyre ‘apologises’ to his unborn daughter amid anti-abortion ruling

Australian actor Liam McIntyre has admitted he “feels the need to apologize” to his unborn daughter amid the US Supreme Court’s anti-abortion ruling.

The 40-year-old, who is from Adelaide but now lives in the US, said in a Twitter and Instagram post on Saturday that the excitement of announcing his baby news with wife Erin Hasan had abated, but vowed to ensure that his daughter ‘knows its value’.

The US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, ending the US constitutional right to abortion, means that individual states can decide whether abortion can be made illegal.

The Supreme Court ended the constitutional protections for abortion that have been in effect for nearly 50 years by deciding to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade ruling.

Power has now been returned to individual states to decide whether or not to allow the proceedings.

Women with unwanted pregnancies in America will now face the choice of traveling to another state where the procedure will remain legal and available, buying abortion pills online, or having a potentially dangerous illegal abortion.

In a speech at the White House, President Joe Biden said it was “a sad day for the court and the country.”

He called the Supreme Court ruling “wrong, extreme and out of the blue”.

Biden accused the court of “expressly stripping away a constitutional right that is so fundamental to so many Americans,” and vowed that the fight over abortion rights is “not over.”

He said his government will do everything in its power to fight efforts to prevent women from traveling to other states to have abortions.
