Independent senator Lidia Thorpe has come under fire for her protest move against King Charles at Parliament House in Canberra on Monday afternoon.

Independent senator Lidia Thorpe has come under fire for her protest move against King Charles at Parliament House in Canberra on Monday afternoon.

The King had just finished speaking in the Great Hall when Mrs. Thorpe launched a torrent of insults at the monarch.

‘You committed genocide against our people, give us back our land!’ she cried, while wrapped in a native fur coat.

‘Give us what you stole from us! Our bones, our skulls, our people, you destroyed our land!

‘Give us a treaty, we want a treaty in this country! This is not your land, this is not your land! You are not my King, you are not our King. You are a genocide!’

As she was dragged from the scene, she was heard shouting: ‘Fuck the colony, screw the colony.’

The response on social media to the controversial senator’s outburst was swift and brutal.

‘Good old Lidia Thorpe can’t help but make a fool of herself. “They should get her out of politics once and for all,” one of them wrote.

“Lidia Thorpe is making a fool of herself shouting insults at King Charles right now,” another wrote on X.

A third simply said: “Shame on Australia.”

Former treasurer Joe Hockey did not hold back in his condemnation.

“If a parliamentarian or senator seeks attention by behaving badly when we have visiting dignitaries, then they should be suspended from attending the next three similar events,” he wrote.

“No matter what your opinion is, be respectful of guests.”

Leading entertainment reporter Peter Ford called out Ms Thorpe’s double standards.

“That is why everyone must respect the welcome to the country ceremonies,” he wrote.

‘But Lidia, who signed the oath to the Crown, does not have to respect the reigning monarch when she chooses to be in his presence. What a surprise it is!’

Senator Thorpe’s actions in Parliament were preceded by a strange altercation with police hours earlier.

As police ordered a small group of protesters outside the Australian War Memorial to move on, Ms Thorpe was seen arguing with a police officer who was grabbing her by the shirt.

She then took off her shirt and stormed away from the officer.

“Everything we suffer in this country is due to that colonial invasion,” he said after the fight.

Thorpe, who was elected as a Greens senator for Victoria before leaving that party and becoming an independent, has often been open about her feelings towards the monarchy.

Last year, she, along with representatives from 11 other countries, signed a letter urging King Charles to apologize for the effect of colonization.

Another online commenter asked: “How can someone who so blatantly violates his oath/affirmation still serve as a senator?”, referring to the oath of loyalty to the monarch that all Australian politicians must take.

Others also picked up on the same theme, with one X user writing: “Whether you like it or not, you have sworn allegiance to the Crown.”

—Surely his broken oath justifies his expulsion from parliament?

Many people also resorted to foul language to express their anger towards Ms Thorpe, with one person on X writing ‘Get Lidia Thorpe out now’.

‘Damn shameful stain on Australia.’

One person even created an online poll asking the question “Is Lidia Thorpe a dropkick?”

At the time of writing, 91.4 percent of those who voted said “Yes.”
