Glenn Maxwell made a remarkable catch in the Big Bash League on Wednesday as the Melbourne Stars sealed victory against the Brisbane Heat.

Glenn Maxwell defied gravity Wednesday night to land an early catch of the year contender.

The Melbourne Stars would record a five-wicket victory over the Brisbane Heat, thanks in part to Maxwell’s moment of brilliance at the Gabba.

The Stars have had a torrid start to the season, losing their first five games, but they’re off to a good start in 2025, literally.

Despite being dismissed for a duck, Maxwell showed off his acrobatic skills by jumping high into the air to prevent Will Prestwidge’s monster six from crossing the boundary.

The former Aussie Test star, who was over the boundary when he first made contact with the ball, sent the stadium into delirium, flicking the ball back into the air and over the boundary before recovering it.

While there have been plenty of special catches during this summer’s Big Bash, including a duo of spectacular shots by Jordan Silk earlier this week, commentators were horrified at the time, with one comparing Maxwell, 36, to LeBron James.

“What’s up with this Maxwell thing?” said the Fox Cricket commentator.

‘Incredible, we have seen incredible things this summer, but that is the catch of the year.

‘Maxwell as LeBron James!’

Another commenter even went so far as to say: “That’s the best catch I’ve seen at the Big Bash.”

Fans took note of Maxwell’s reaction to X’s capture, with one writing: “It’s the fact that he’s so nonchalant about it.”

“Excellent,” said another, and one said, “Take a bow!”

Maxwell impressively would make four catches in the game, also sacking Tom Banton, Matt Renshaw and Paul Walter.

But there was a strange moment during the start of the innings, with Maxwell, who was on the microphone, asking Ben Duckett and Sam Harper to stand back to back after a “very important discussion.”

He revealed that the team had discussed putting Duckett at second slip, but he jokingly had some reservations that the ball would fly over his head.

“We were trying to decide who was going to slip up,” he told Channel 7.

‘Ducky (Duckett) said, “Yeah, I slipped a little.”

Maxwell was later involved in an argument

Maxwell was subsequently involved in a “very important” argument with Ben Duckett and Sam Harper over who was taller, with the pair (left and right) back to back.

He claimed that the England batsman was the taller of the pair, and Duckett walked away laughing at that point.

“But I was like, ‘Mate at the Gabba, you’re probably going to be overlooked.’

Duckett was heard responding: “That’s a low blow!”

Maxwell stepped between Duckett and Harper and added, “I’m telling you, I feel huge next to these two.”

He was asked who was taller of the two, before saying: “Duckett wears platforms, so I think it’s Harps.”

The debate continued with Maxwell hilariously calling for Duckett and Harper to stand back to back.

He later decided that Duckett was the taller of the pair.

Brisbane would post a score of 149-7, with Max Bryant hitting an unbeaten 77.

But the Stars had outclassed their opponents in the first innings with Dan Lawrence and captain Marcus Stoinis hitting 64 and 62 respectively to seal the victory, while Duckett, who opened the batting, was dismissed for a duck.
