An Australian singer from a popular rock band has addressed the intense criticism she received after posting a photo of herself wearing a pro-Trump hat that read ‘Make America Great Again.’

Hayley Mary, the lead singer of The Jezabels, shared the selfie wearing the controversial red hat last week to make waves and protest Australia’s misinformation bill.

However, the 37-year-old’s post backfired and sparked outrage in the Australian music industry.

“First of all, the MAGA hat was shocking,” he wrote in a separate post.

“Let’s be honest, without it it would have been a very dry post about an Australian parliament disinformation bill that no one would have seen or discussed because politics (aside from Trump) is boring.”

The singer, who also has her own solo career, claims she has been “cancelled” and has lost friends as a result of the backlash.

“The consequences were everything you can imagine. I probably don’t have a musical career like I knew it anymore,” he told Herald of the sun.

‘I have lost some friends, although I hope it is temporary. I have lost part of my business infrastructure; publicity, band members, crew members, a show, my album release, some income and quite a following.’

Hayley said spreading information about the bill is “pretty dangerous” and worth risking her career.

“I’m almost certainly going to lose friends and income with this post, but I’ve been living with self-censorship in the super-woke music industry for years and it’s starting to grate on my soul, especially now that I’m now realizing my own f*ck.” A weak silence helped this law come into effect,’ he wrote in his original post.

‘So yeah, cancel me and cancel my shows, if you want. I don’t care enough to keep up the facade.
