A retiree is now $8 million richer after winning the Oz Lotto lottery.
The man, from Bentley Park in Cairns, was having breakfast with his wife when he received the life-changing news on Tuesday morning.
He was leaving a dentist appointment when he decided to buy a lottery ticket.
The retiree was the only winner of the first division in the 1599th draw of the Oz Lotto.
‘My God! That’s amazing!’ he told Oz Lotto.
‘This will make life much easier. I’ve been playing the lottery since it started. God knows!’
‘Who would have thought this ticket would net him $8 million?’
With the shock still fresh, the man said he’s not sure what the windfall would be spent on, but confirmed he has at least one purchase in mind.

“I’m not really sure, but I’ll definitely buy a new car,” he said.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Market Place News in Centenary Park Place, and owner Sally Tyrie said the team was “very excited” after the win.
“I think selling the ticket is the best option after winning. There will be a lot of celebration and excitement in the store this week,” said Mrs Tyrie.
“We’ll probably put up some balloons and get ready to sell our next winning ticket.”
Tyrie revealed it was the store’s third division one winning entry, with the last one sold out in November 2019.
“These winning moments are the reason we do what we do,” he said.
‘Eight million dollars is a life-changing amount and we are very happy for our winner. We wish them all the best because they have great moments ahead of them. Congratulations!’
The winning numbers for Tuesday’s drawing were 30, 46, 44, 14, 45, 42 and 6, while the supplementary numbers were 16, 15 and 21.
