Aussie Olympian in ICU with serious injuries including a fractured pelvis  after shock horse fall at school event, but still hopes to compete in Paris

Australian Olympic equestrian rider Shane Rose has been rushed to hospital after a serious fall.

The three-time Olympic medalist is in intensive care after suffering a severe concussion, broken femur, broken pelvis and broken ribs.

Rose was cleared to compete at the Paris Olympics just a few weeks ago and had been presenting at a school cross country session when she fell.

In a social media post Friday night, Rose’s team wrote, “As the saying goes, one day a peacock, the next a feather duster.”

“After a fantastic week in New Zealand, Shane and (his horse) Virgil secured their Olympic qualification,” they said.

“This week, Shane got his feet back on the ground, literally.”

‘Yesterday, during a school cross country session, Shane suffered a bad fall.

‘Fortunately his horse was not injured in the fall.

‘Shane is currently in ICU with a severely broken femur and a fractured pelvis and ribs. He also suffered a severe concussion.

“Shane had surgery this morning to stabilize his femur and pelvis.”

They said Rose was “in good hands” and had a strong medical team and support network.

“Although the timing is unfortunate, we are hopeful that there will be enough time for him to recover and be able to continue his preparation program for the Paris Olympics.”

The sport’s governing body was investigating Rose after a complaint was made about an orange mankini she wore during a costume event in February.

Her skimpy outfit turned heads at the Wallaby Hill Extravaganza in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales when she rode a horse wearing only Borat’s famous garment.

Rose was subsequently cleared to continue her preparations for the Paris Olympics.
