An Australian is $150,000 richer after checking, just in time, an 11-month-old lottery ticket.
The Western Australian man bought the note in January and stuck it to his refrigerator, where it remained for almost a year.
Lotterywest players have 12 months to claim their prizes, so the man was lucky enough to finally bag the winning ticket during a routine visit to the pharmacy.
“I kept thinking, I’ll check it out next month, and then the next month would come and I’d think the same thing again,” he said.
“I couldn’t believe it when I finally checked: not only did I win, but I claimed my prize right on time.”
He had just a few weeks to claim his $146,943 Division One prize.
The man, aged in his 30s, shared the happy news with his family and plans to put the money towards his home in Mandurah.
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said the win was a “great reminder to check your tickets regularly”.

‘This player is going to have a very special Christmas this year.
‘What wonderful news, made even sweeter by arriving just five weeks before this ticket expired.
“Imagine having a winning ticket stuck on your refrigerator for almost the entire year.”
Players can register tickets to a Lotterywest membership so they can contact holders of winning tickets, Ms Wender said.
