An Australian woman studying in California has revealed a list of things about America that she believes would instantly put off Aussies from living there.

Chloe Adnams from Melbourne has noticed a number of differences in America compared to life at home.

In a now viral TikTok videoChloe, 20, pointed out what she’s noticed while studying abroad, but some disagreed with her.

“Sarcasm is so rare, and when you use sarcasm, people look at you funny,” she began, citing the difference in tone when joking around.

One thing Chloe misses about Melbourne, and Australia in general, is the coffee culture.

American coffee tastes ‘so sweet’ and is ‘pumped with sugar’, she says, making it difficult to find anything similar to coffee at home.

Not only that, but the portion sizes of the meal are huge and ‘1000 times more unhealthy’ compared to Down Under.

Aussies are also known to swear frequently, including the casual use of the C-word, but it’s far less acceptable in the US, Chloe has noted.

If you’re sick, she found it odd that you can buy ‘super strong medicine’ over the counter, which would require a doctor’s prescription in Australia.

“But they don’t have Panadol here… it’s ‘too dangerous'” Chloe said with a confused look on her face. Tylenol – an American brand of paracetamol – is available at pharmacies.

As for drinking before a night out, she noted that Americans she’s hung out with tend to ‘just do shots’ rather than enjoying a pre-mixed drink.

She added how young Americans act like ’18-year-old Australians’ drinking for the first time.

The video has since been viewed 753,000 times and received more than 1,100 comments.

“I think I’ll just stay in Australia because I need my coffee the way I like it,” one person wrote.

However, Chloe was criticized by Americans for ‘not understanding’ American sarcasm.

‘Just because you don’t understand American sarcasm doesn’t mean it isn’t there,’ one wrote, and another added: ‘Where is sarcasm rare?’
