Aussie motorcycle racing heartthrob Daniel Ricciardo has made his debut at one of America’s most iconic events, making a surprise appearance on the Met Gala red carpet on Tuesday alongside the likes of the Kardashians and Nicole Kidman.
The F1 star appeared to be solo at the event, wearing a black suit, bow tie and his trademark smile.
But eagle-eyed fans saw the 33-year-old take a quick look at Hollywood A-lister Anne Hathaway as he waited for his photo shoot in New York City.
Still, Hathaway was also impressed when the pair shared a brief exchange before parting ways.
“Nice to meet you,” she said to Ricciardo. “Wow, I’m a huge F1 fan.”

Ricciardo’s appearance at Met Gala came as a shock after he said the event was too ‘formal’ for him in a podcast after fellow driver Lewis Hamilton was invited to the exclusive bash in 2021.
‘After seeing some images, not really. Look, I mean, as some fashion is right now, I think you could probably get away with that,” he said.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it would be an experience, but I don’t know. It seems a bit formal to me.’
The Aussie joined fellow Down Under stars Nicole Kidman, Baz Luhrmann, Hugh Jackman and Margot Robbie.
Born in Duncraig in Western Australia, 33-year-old Ricciardo is now back at Red Bull as a reserve driver after being sacked by McLaren in 2022.
He admitted last week that his failure at McLaren left him ‘humiliated’ as he was regularly outclassed by younger team-mate Lando Norris.
“I don’t want to say I felt humiliated because that’s probably too dramatic,” he said in an interview with The Athletic.
“I didn’t have my head up my ass. But in a way I got humbled and realized that okay, I’m not perfect.
“If I got back on the grid, the hunger would of course be satisfied all the way to the top. But it wouldn’t come from a place where my ego or pride gets in the way.
It’s accepting that it won’t always be perfect. It’s just a reality of life.’

Ricciardo is now back at Red Bull as a reserve driver after being sacked by McLaren in 2022 – a period when he was ‘not a good person to deal with’
Ricciardo said he was ‘not a good person to be around’ during his struggles on track, but added that stepping away from racing has helped him recalibrate.
“The bad days (last year) would then flow into my weeks,” he said. “Then I would have bad days just like normal days when I’m not on the track.
“I just wasn’t a good person to be around sometimes. I feel it (be happier in 2023).
“But if other people who know me well recognize it, I think it’s true.”
