A driver has been urged not to pay a fine for exceeding the time limit in a shopping center car park because he was on private property.

The woman was fined $65 after she parked beyond the three-hour limit in the Galleria shopping center car park in Perth’s north-east last week and took to social media for advice.

‘Did anyone get a parking ticket at the Galleria? “I have shopped and parked there for 24 years and never received a ticket,” he wrote.

Others were quick to assure the driver that she would not have to pay since the mall had no power to issue fines.

‘Don’t pay. They are not the police. Private security. Tear up and throw away. Damn joke,” one commented on a screenshot of the notice.

“You are not legally obligated to pay these types of fines, they are not enforceable,” another person agreed.

‘Look at the back, it will say this is not a fine. “I’ve never paid a Wilson parking ticket and there have been no problems,” wrote a third.

A Galleria spokesperson said Yahoo News Parking downtown is free to customers for three hours, reaching up to five hours in some parts.

The spokesperson said this was clearly indicated on signs posted in the car park.

The Galleria shopping center website indicates there are more than 4,200 car spaces available to customers.

Defense attorney James Clements said Yahoo News The woman does not have to pay the fine.

He explained that only a legal body has the power to impose a fine and that the signs were an “intimidation tactic” to scare buyers into paying.

‘Ignore him. Or respond and say, “I dispute this and have no intention of paying,” he said.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Galleria shopping center management for comment.
