An Australian cruise ship passenger drowned while swimming off an island in the Philippines.
The 71-year-old man died after disembarking from the cruise ship MS Noordam near Boracay island at 10.30am on Wednesday.
The man was pulled from the water unresponsive after calling for help as he struggled to stay afloat in the water.
Malaysian MPS operations chief Lieutenant Joerelyn Requintin said the man had been swimming with several people.
“After disembarking from the cruise ship with other passengers, they swam near the Cagban jetty, about 10 meters from the shore,” he told Panay News.
Emergency services took the man to Ciriaco S. Tirol hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
