Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell has strongly denied having a problem with alcohol and wants the narrative to change.
Maxwell, 36, addresses the topic in her new book. the showman and although he acknowledges that the previous repeated indiscretions have not helped, the reputation as an excessive drinker bothers him.
“(The) vague narrative about me is impossible to disperse,” Maxwell said in his book co-written with Adam Collins.
‘Do I feel that sometimes it has been unfair? Yes. There are certain incidents where I have gotten drunk, that’s fair. But when I haven’t filled up and they’re still judging me, that’s where I get a little frustrated.’
Since 2022, several incidents have not helped improve the perception of the off-roader.
Whether it was breaking his leg at a friend’s 50th birthday party, falling off a golf cart last year at the World Cup or being hospitalized after seeing Brett Lee’s band perform in Adelaide.
In Maxwell’s case, the mud has stuck.
Maxwell also had to endure his wife Vini’s miscarriage in 2022 and a battle with depression in 2019.

‘It seems unfair to me that everything that happens outside the game of cricket is related to alcohol. “That’s what I find frustrating,” he said.
‘For example, if I go out for a coffee and I slip on the side of the road and someone says, ‘Oh Maxwell, another alcohol-related incident.’
‘Well, it’s 10 in the morning, it’s been raining. ‘Where does it end?
In an interview with news corporation, Maxwell recalled an incident from 2017 in India after a T20 game with Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League.
‘I was to blame. ‘I’d rather not talk about it,’ he said.
‘I hated that night, it was a bad night. I was afraid… trying to get back to the hotel and getting lost in the middle of India.’
Maxwell also talks about his journey from life in suburban Melbourne, plus his “challenges” with teammate Steve Smith and former coach Justin Langer.
