Australian cricket legend Mark Waugh has called on the likes of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins to “hype” rising Indian star Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of the second Test in Adelaide.
Waugh, 59, wants to see the quicks intimidate opening batsman Jaiswal, with short-pitched bowling essential in the day-night clash.
“We played pretty well most of the game (in Perth), but I think we lacked a bit of aggression,” Waugh said. News Corporation.
‘I would like to see a bit more short stuff, perhaps ruffling the feathers of the Indian batsmen.
‘Jaiswal is a tremendous player. He is a young boy, he is 22 years old. We barely bothered him at all.
“I think we can be a little more aggressive at certain times with the ball and body language.
“Sometimes it seemed a little flat.”
Waugh also felt Cummins was “poor” at Optus Stadium and believed the captain should have played Shield cricket for NSW before the series opener.

Australia had no answers when it came to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a brilliant 161 in India’s second innings in Perth.
Cummins also surprised cricket fans when he opted to attend a Coldplay music concert during one of Australia’s warm-up matches against Pakistan.
“What you really want is to get to work,” Waugh said.
‘I’m a little old-fashioned. It was a little different in our days. We play a lot. We would have a Shield match before a Test match.
“But times have changed and the calendar requires a lot of preparation.”
Waugh stated that the higher order, including the embattled Marnus Labuschagne, needs to find a way to combat the Indians quickly. Jasprit Bumrah.
He reckons the Queenslander’s problem is “thinking about cricket 24 hours a day” and urged the former world number one batsman to make some technical changes at the crease.
The second Test at Adelaide Oval begins on December 6.
